About the event
Exposed spine binding is a visually stunning binding method,
it is sometimes also called exposed smyth sewn or thread-bound.
Pages are folded into groups of collated pages (sections)
which are sewn together by hand at the spine using
continuous thread. Exposed spine books open near the flat.
The workshop is suitable for both beginners and those with
some prior experience of bookbinding.
In my exposed spine journals I combine the love of acrylic paints, papers & inks all in one art book.
A little but about the tutor:
I am Maria, an artist and illustrator based in South East London. I’m inspired by the natural world, by my travels, and childhood memories. Later on, I did my Masters in Art at the University of Fine Arts in Cluj-Napoca and then spent time studying in Italy before moving to London. Today I specialise in watercolour, which is my favourite technique. I love bold colours and botanical illustration, anything that evokes happiness and healing.
Attendees will get:
1 small A6 Notebook
Attendees should bring:
Ideas for the covers - we will decorate the cover with inks and markers
