About the event

Ever looked at an oil painting and thought “I want to do that!”? Want to combine

learning with fun and prosecco?

Using landscapes by a selection of well-known artists for inspiration, you will be

introduced to mark-making and various oil pastel techniques, such as blending,

cross-hatching and sgraffito. By looking at the shapes, pattern, colours and emotions

in these works, you’ll get an understanding of how to build your own version within a

relaxed, supportive atmosphere.

Oil pastel is very user-friendly and unlike oil paint, doesn’t require the use of

brushes, turpentine or building up in a particular sequence. And your beautiful

artworks can be taken away without the need for drying or fixing, ready to be framed

and hung on the wall.

This class is suitable for anyone who wants to use this versatile medium in a relaxed

environment. No prior experience is necessary.

Enjoy a complementary prosecco, with further refreshments available to purchase

from the bar.

All materials will be available including table-top easels.

Places are limited to 12 people.

Minimum age 16.

Ticket price £35 inclusive of booking fees.

Kate’s lively and enjoyable workshop gave not only an introduction to oil pastel

techniques, but by using images of famous landscape works, encouraged us to think

more deeply about how these techniques can be used to convey emotion in our

work. Altogether an absorbing couple of hours – would recommend.” Helen

“Kate was encouraging with her feedback and her advice was very helpful. I would

definitely attend another of her classes.” Lynette

Kate Stephens trained in Fine Art at Staffordshire University and the Slade School of

Art, London. She has a studio just along the river at Thames-Side Studios.
